Freedom Is Not Just Possible — It Is Your Inheritance
Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil. This guide will show you exactly how to walk in that freedom today.
You have prayed. You have fasted. You have repented. Yet something still feels wrong — a darkness you cannot shake, a cycle you cannot break, a bondage that will not lift. You are not imagining it. And you are not beyond help.
The guide to deliverance you are reading right now exists because millions of sincere Christians are suffering under demonic oppression they were never taught to recognise or confront. Jesus did not die to leave you in bondage. He came to set the captives free — and that includes you.
This complete guide to deliverance covers everything you need to know: what deliverance is, whether Christians can have demons, the signs of oppression, what happens in a session, how to prepare, and what to do after. By the time you finish this page, you will have a clear path forward.
What Is Deliverance? The Biblical Foundation
Deliverance is the ministry of expelling demonic spirits from a person's life through the authority of Jesus Christ. It is not a modern invention, a fringe practice, or a theological curiosity. It is one of the central works of Jesus recorded in the Gospels and commissioned by Him to His church.
Biblical Definition
Deliverance is the act of commanding unclean spirits to leave a person in the name of Jesus Christ, removing their legal right to remain through repentance and renunciation, and releasing the person into the freedom Christ purchased at Calvary.
Jesus cast out demons everywhere He went. In Mark 1:39 (NKJV) we read: "He was preaching in their synagogues throughout all Galilee, and casting out demons." This was not incidental — it was central to His ministry. And before ascending, He commissioned His followers to do the same: "And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons" (Mark 16:17, NKJV).
A guide to deliverance must be rooted in this truth: deliverance is biblical, it is ongoing, and it is available to every believer who needs it today.
"The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed."— Luke 4:18, NKJV
Can Christians Have Demons?
This is the most common question in any guide to deliverance — and the most important one to answer correctly. The short answer is: yes, a Christian can be demonically oppressed, and Scripture supports this.
A demon cannot possess a born-again believer's spirit — the Holy Spirit dwells there. But a demon can occupy areas of the soul (mind, will, emotions) or body where legal grounds exist: unconfessed sin, trauma, occult involvement, unforgiveness, bitter judgments, or generational iniquity.
"Christians can't have demons — I'm saved!"
Salvation secures your spirit. But undealt-with sin and wounds in the soul can still give demonic spirits legal access. Salvation and deliverance are both necessary.
"I just need more faith and prayer."
Faith and prayer are vital — but Jesus modelled a specific ministry of casting out demons. Deliverance is not a lack of faith; it is faith in action.
"Deliverance is only for extreme cases."
Many people experiencing depression, compulsive sin, fear, or chronic sickness need deliverance. It is far more common than the Church has acknowledged.
Paul wrote to the Ephesian believers — people already saved and filled with the Spirit — "neither give place to the devil" (Ephesians 4:27, NKJV). You cannot give place to someone who has no access. This verse confirms that even believers can give ground to the enemy and need it reclaimed.

7 Signs You Need Deliverance
No guide to deliverance is complete without helping you identify whether deliverance is actually what you need. Here are seven signs that demonic oppression — not just spiritual immaturity or mental health struggle — may be at the root of what you are experiencing.
Compulsive Sin You Cannot Break
You repent sincerely but return to the same sin repeatedly. Willpower fails. This is often a demonic stronghold, not just a habit.
Tormenting Thoughts & Voices
Intrusive thoughts of worthlessness, fear, death, or blasphemy that feel like they come from outside you. This is a sign of oppression.
Resistance to Prayer & the Word
You feel blocked, distracted, or even physically ill when you try to pray, worship, or read Scripture. Demonic interference is a known pattern.
Recurring Generational Patterns
The same addictions, broken marriages, mental illness, or financial collapse that destroyed your parents are now destroying you. This is often a generational spirit.
Chronic Fear, Anxiety & Dread
A spirit of fear is one of the most common spirits needing deliverance. If anxiety controls your life despite prayer, it may have a demonic root.
Occult or Trauma History
Past involvement in the occult, abuse, or trauma are major open doors. These create legal grounds for demonic spirits that must be dealt with directly.
Deep Sense of Spiritual Blockage
A knowing that something is between you and God — that your prayers are hitting the ceiling — is one of the most common things people describe before deliverance.

What Happens in a Deliverance Session
One of the greatest barriers to seeking a guide to deliverance is not knowing what to expect. Fear of the unknown keeps many people in bondage longer than necessary. Here is exactly what happens in an online deliverance session at See His Grace.
Intake & Assessment
Before the session, you complete a confidential intake questionnaire covering your spiritual history, open doors, trauma, and areas of struggle. This allows the session to be targeted and effective from the first minute.
Opening Prayer & Spiritual Covering
The session opens with prayer establishing the authority of Jesus Christ, covering the session in His blood, and inviting the Holy Spirit to lead. This is not ritualistic — it is biblical protocol.
Repentance & Renunciation
You pray through repentance of specific sins and renounce the legal grounds that have given demonic spirits access — unforgiveness, occult involvement, vows, and agreements with the enemy. This is the foundation everything else builds on.
Commanding Spirits to Leave
With legal grounds removed, we command demonic spirits to leave in the name of Jesus Christ. This is where deliverance actually occurs — directly, authoritatively, and with Scripture as the basis.
Filling with the Holy Spirit & Aftercare
Deliverance creates space — that space must be filled with the Holy Spirit. We close by praying in the Spirit, declaring your identity in Christ, and equipping you with specific aftercare steps to maintain your freedom.
Sessions are conducted via Zoom, fully confidential, and typically run up to two hours. For a detailed breakdown of the process, read: How Online Deliverance Ministry Works
How to Prepare for Your Deliverance Session
Preparation significantly increases the effectiveness of deliverance. This is not about earning ministry — it is about positioning yourself to receive all that God has for you. Here is your pre-session checklist:
- Fast for 24 hours before the session if health permits — even a partial fast is beneficial
- Spend time in prayer and Scripture the morning of your session
- Write out known sins, areas of occult involvement, unforgiveness, and trauma to bring before God
- Remove any occult objects, ungodly music, or spiritually compromising items from your environment
- Complete your intake questionnaire thoroughly and honestly
- Choose a private, quiet space for your Zoom session where you will not be interrupted
- Come with expectation — God wants to set you free more than you want to be free
"Submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you."— James 4:7–8, NKJV
Aftercare — Keeping Your Freedom
Jesus warned in Matthew 12:43–45 (NKJV) that when an unclean spirit leaves a person, it seeks to return. If it finds the house "empty, swept, and put in order" — meaning the person has not filled that space with God — it returns with seven worse spirits. Deliverance without discipleship is incomplete.
This is why every guide to deliverance must include aftercare. Freedom won must be freedom maintained. Here is how:
Daily Word & Prayer
The renewed mind is your greatest defence. Romans 12:2 commands transformation by the renewing of the mind. Daily Scripture reading and prayer re-establishes Godly thought patterns in areas previously dominated by demonic thinking.
Maintain Repentance
Do not allow sin to accumulate unopposed. Walk in quick repentance — not shame, but the clean conscience that removes demonic legal grounds before they become strongholds again.
Guard Your Gates
What you watch, listen to, and meditate on matters enormously after deliverance. Eliminate media and relationships that previously fed demonic strongholds. You are protecting ground you fought hard to take.
Connect with Believing Community
Isolation is one of the enemy's primary tactics after deliverance. Find a Spirit-filled church or community where you are known, accountable, and covered in prayer.
A Prayer to Begin Your Journey
If you are ready to begin pursuing your guide to deliverance right now, pray this prayer aloud with faith and sincerity. This is not a formula — it is a declaration to God and a renunciation of the enemy's claims on your life.
PRAYER FOR DELIVERANCE
Heavenly Father, I come before You in the name of Jesus Christ. I confess that I have sinned and given ground to the enemy through [name specific sins, fears, or occult involvement]. I repent of every sin and ask Your forgiveness according to 1 John 1:9.
I renounce every agreement I have made with the enemy — knowingly or unknowingly. I renounce every generational iniquity passed down through my bloodline. I break every soul tie to people and things that have given darkness access to my life.
In the name of Jesus Christ, I command every demonic spirit operating in my life to leave now. You have no legal right to remain. The blood of Jesus has removed your claim. Go, in Jesus' name.
Holy Spirit, fill every area that has been emptied. I declare that I am a new creation in Christ Jesus. I receive my freedom today. Amen.
