Familiar spirits are demonic entities that disguise themselves as helpers, ancestors, or spiritual guides. They attach to families and even objects to deceive through imitation of comfort, prophecy, or protection. Their “familiarity” comes from observing generations and exploiting legal ground. Through the authority of Jesus Christ, believers expose and cast out these unclean spirits.
The aim of this teaching is to reveal what familiar spirits are, how they operate, and how to close their access points so you can walk in complete freedom through Jesus Christ.
Biblical Foundation (NKJV)
“Give no regard to mediums and familiar spirits; do not seek after them, to be defiled by them: I am the LORD your God.” — Leviticus 19:31 (NKJV). See also Leviticus 20:6, 1 Samuel 28, and 1 John 4:1.
What Familiar Spirits Do
They imitate revelation and comfort, offering information without holiness and power without repentance. They appear as dead loved ones, whisper condemnation, or inspire “insight” that contradicts Scripture — all to bind people in fear and confusion.
The Holy Spirit glorifies Jesus and produces holiness. Familiar spirits glorify experiences and produce confusion, obsession, and isolation.
Counterfeit markers: secret knowledge, “ancestral” guidance, spiritual thrills, yet growing bondage and avoidance of Scripture, prayer, and church.
How They Gain Access (Open Doors)
- Occult involvement: tarot, pendulums, spirit guides, Ouija, divination.
- Necromancy: seeking comfort or counsel from the dead.
- New Age: crystals, “energy healing,” or yoga pursued for spiritual power.
- Witchcraft & sorcery: spells, rituals, hexes, protective charms.
- Ancestral worship; unclean covenants, vows, initiations, blood oaths.
- Generational iniquity; idols/media that glorify darkness; bitterness and rebellion.

The Deliverance Process (Step-By-Step)
- Repent of all occult/mediumship (Lev 19:31; Deut 18:9–14).
- Renounce familiar spirits, covenants, vows, and objects.
- Remove items—destroy them (Acts 19:19).
- Command them to leave in Jesus’ Name (Luke 10:19; Mark 16:17).
- Replace with Word, prayer, worship, fellowship.
- Resist & Rebuild in discipleship and accountability.
Full Deliverance Prayer (NKJV)
Heavenly Father, in the mighty Name of Jesus Christ, I come before You acknowledging that You alone are the true and living God. Your Word declares that I am not to seek mediums or familiar spirits (Leviticus 19:31). I repent for every act of rebellion, curiosity, or fear that led me to open doors to the demonic. I repent for consulting spirit guides, horoscopes, or occult practices, knowingly or unknowingly. I ask Your forgiveness and cleansing through the blood of Jesus.
In the Name of Jesus, I renounce every familiar spirit operating in my life, my bloodline, and my household. I renounce every agreement, vow, or covenant made through words, rituals, or objects. I renounce necromancy, divination, witchcraft, and all communication with the dead. I break every generational curse and revoke the legal rights of these spirits to remain. Every spirit of deception, fear, and false prophecy — I break your hold now in Jesus’ Name.
By the authority of Jesus Christ (Luke 10:19), I command every familiar spirit to leave me now. Go from my mind, body, soul, and environment. I cancel your assignments and close every open door with the blood of Jesus. I declare that I am redeemed, sealed, and protected by the Holy Spirit. My allegiance belongs to Jesus Christ alone.
Holy Spirit, fill every place that was vacated. Fill me with Your wisdom, purity, and discernment. Let Your gifts flow freely within me for the glory of God, not the deception of the enemy. I receive Your peace, Your power, and Your truth. From this day forward, my life will bear fruit of righteousness, holiness, and victory.
I seal this deliverance in the Name of Jesus Christ and by His blood. I declare that I am free — spirit, soul, and body — for whom the Son sets free is free indeed. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
