SEE HIS GRACE DELIVERANCE MINISTRY

What Is Deliverance?

Deliverance is the supernatural work of Jesus Christ where the Holy Spirit removes demonic influence, breaks spiritual bondage, and restores freedom to a believer’s life. Many Christians love the Lord, read the Bible, and attend church, yet still feel spiritually blocked, oppressed, or tormented. Deliverance is how Jesus sets those captives free.

In Scripture, the ministry of deliverance is described as casting out unclean spirits, breaking chains, loosing captives, and healing all who were oppressed by the devil. Deliverance is not about fear or sensationalism, but about removing what the enemy is using to hinder your walk with God so you can live in the freedom Christ purchased for you.

Luke 4:18 (NKJV)

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed.”

Why Christians Still Need Deliverance Today

Many believers love Jesus, read the Word, and attend church, yet still feel spiritually blocked, oppressed, or tormented. A born-again Christian belongs to Christ, but the Bible still warns us not to give place to the devil. When doors are opened through sin, trauma, witchcraft, or generational bondage, the enemy can gain influence until those doors are closed and deliverance is received.

Ephesians 4:27 (NKJV)

“Nor give place to the devil.”

How Demons Gain Access (Open Doors)

Demonic oppression does not arrive at random — the enemy exploits open doors. Many of these show up as signs your home is under spiritual attack, involvement in witchcraft and occult practices, or long-standing generational bondage.

  • Unrepented sin: Sexual sin, pornography, substance abuse, lying, bitterness, rage, and rebellion.
  • Trauma and wounds: Abuse, rejection, betrayal, abandonment, accidents, and deep grief.
  • Occult and witchcraft: Tarot, psychics, horoscopes, crystals, new age practices, spells, and any form of witchcraft.
  • Generational bondage: Family patterns of fear, addiction, violence, perversion, or witchcraft.
  • Ungodly soul ties: Sexual relationships and toxic emotional bonds outside of God’s design.
  • Cursed objects and environments: Occult items, idols, and homes marked by sin or spiritual darkness.

Signs You May Need Deliverance

Everyone experiences spiritual battles, but some symptoms point to deeper demonic oppression. These signs often appear when the enemy has gained a foothold and deliverance is needed.

  • Persistent night torment or sleep paralysis
  • Sexual dreams or night visitations (spirit spouse activity)
  • Sudden waves of fear, panic, or persistent anxiety → link to Spirit of Fear
  • Recurring intrusive thoughts, self-hatred, or hopelessness
  • Cycles of sin or addiction that feel impossible to break (Will link to Spirit of Addiction when published)
  • Feeling watched, touched, or pressured spiritually
  • Turmoil in the home, especially after arguments or conflict
  • Sudden emotional swings that do not match the situation
  • Unexplained heaviness around the head, chest, or body
  • Ongoing relationship breakdowns, sabotage, or isolation
  • Spiritual blockage — difficulty praying, reading the Word, or worshipping

How Deliverance Works: A Biblical Model

Deliverance follows a clear biblical pattern. Jesus and the early church ministered freedom through repentance, renouncing, breaking open doors, and commanding unclean spirits to leave.

Step 1 — Repentance

Repentance closes the primary door the enemy uses. Without repentance, deliverance is incomplete.

Step 2 — Renouncing Legal Rights

This includes breaking covenants, soul ties, agreements, and spiritual marriages. To learn more, see our teachings on breaking soul ties and spirit spouse deliverance.

Step 3 — Breaking Open Doors

Any door that was opened through sin, trauma, witchcraft, or generational bondage must be identified and closed. Common strongholds include patterns of poverty, rejection, and sorcery or witchcraft.

Step 4 — Commanding Spirits to Leave

Deliverance is done with calm authority in the name of Jesus Christ. The believer’s role is to stand firm while the Holy Spirit removes what has been hiding in darkness.

Step 5 — Filling With the Holy Spirit

Freedom remains when the Holy Spirit fills every area where the enemy once had influence. Worship, prayer, Scripture reading, and holiness anchor this freedom.

What Deliverance Is Not

  • Not mental illness — some issues require counselling or medical care.
  • Not theatrics — true deliverance is calm, orderly, and Holy Spirit-led.
  • Not blaming demons for everything — discipleship and self-control matter.
  • Not a replacement for inner healing — trauma must still be healed.
  • Not a one-time magic event — freedom grows through holiness, obedience, and filling your life with the Word of God.

What Happens in a Deliverance Session?

Every deliverance session is Holy Spirit–led and grounded in the Word of God. Sessions are confidential, peaceful, and structured. A typical session includes:

  • A short discussion about what you are experiencing
  • Identifying open doors such as sin, trauma, witchcraft, soul ties, or generational patterns
  • Prayers of repentance and renouncing access points
  • Commanding unclean spirits to leave in the name of Jesus Christ
  • Anointing and sealing the person with prayer
  • Aftercare: instruction on maintaining freedom through the Word, prayer, holiness, and worship
