Exposing the Deceptive
Power Behind Witchcraft
Discover how sorcery operates in the unseen realm—using false light, manipulation, and control
and how the power of Jesus Christ exposes and destroys every work of darkness.
Introduction: What the Spirit of Sorcery Is — and Isn’t
The spirit of sorcery is a demonic power that counterfeits the work of the Holy Spirit through manipulation, enchantments, and seduction of the senses. It is not mere stage “magic”; it is a spiritual stronghold that seeks to bind minds, twist perception, and replace faith with fascination.
In Scripture, sorcery manifests where people pursue power apart from God, consult spirits, or mix occult practice with worship. Its aim is to keep people blind to the gospel, entangle them with fear, and resist the truth (cf. 2 Cor 4:4; Acts 13:8–10 NKJV). This teaching exposes how the spirit of sorcery works, the doors it uses, the signs of its influence, and how to break it in Jesus’ Name.

Biblical Foundation (NKJV)
Acts 8:9–11 (NKJV): “But there was a certain man called Simon, who previously practiced sorcery… and astonished the people of Samaria… saying that he was someone great.”
Galatians 5:19–20 (NKJV): “Now the works of the flesh are evident… sorcery…”
Acts 13:8–10 (NKJV): Elymas the sorcerer “withstood” the gospel, and Paul rebuked him as “full of all deceit…”
Revelation 21:8 (NKJV): “Sorcerers… shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone.”
Scripture consistently treats sorcery as spiritual rebellion that opposes Christ and deceives the soul.
The Bible directly addresses sorcery and its dangers. In Acts 8:9–24 (NKJV), Simon the sorcerer tried to buy the power of God. This passage exposes how pride and false power can corrupt a person’s heart and reveals that the Holy Spirit cannot be controlled or purchased.
What the Spirit of Sorcery Does
Counterfeits the Holy Spirit
Mimics power to draw attention to people or phenomena, not to Jesus (cf. 2 Thess 2:9).
Binds Minds with Fascination
Fixates attention on signs, omens, and sensations to dull hunger for Scripture.
Weaponizes Words
Spells, curses, and manipulative speech aim to steer choices (Prov 18:21).
Resists the Gospel
Stirs opposition to truth, confuses counsel, and delays repentance (Acts 13:8–10).
How Sorcery Gains Access
Occult Curiosity
Tarot, crystals, spirit guides, “energy work.”
Mixture & Compromise
Blending worship with occult practice (Deut 18:10–12).
Word Curses
Self-cursing, spoken vows, and destructive declarations.
Inherited Patterns
Family involvement in witchcraft or new age.
Objects & Media
Occult objects, idols, or binding music/media.
Seeking Power Apart from God
Control, domination, manipulation (Gal 3:1).
Many believers open spiritual doors unknowingly through curiosity about occult practices. Astrology, spell work, or “energy readings” may seem harmless but are direct invitations for demonic influence. GotQuestions.org explains biblically that sorcery is any attempt to tap into supernatural power apart from God—an act that Scripture condemns.
Seven Signs You’re Under Sorcery Influence
1Compulsive Fascination
Drawn to omens/“readings,” restless without them.
2Fog over Scripture
Sudden confusion or drowsiness when reading the Bible.
3Manipulative Speech
Using threats, flattery, or “spiritual” control to steer others.
4Night Disturbance
Oppressive dreams, presence, or torment after occult contact.
5Hostility to Truth
Resistance to counsel, conviction, or preaching (Acts 13:8–10).
6Power Hunger
Seeking experiences or influence more than obedience.
7Unclean Objects
Attraction to occult items despite conviction to remove them.
Deliverance Process: From Darkness to Light
- Repent: Turn from all occult involvement; confess specifically (1 John 1:9).
- Renounce: Renounce sorcery, word curses, and all covenants with darkness (2 Cor 6:14).
- Remove: Destroy occult items and cleanse the home (Acts 19:19).
- Resist: Stand firm in the Word; speak the truth aloud (James 4:7).
- Receive: Invite the Holy Spirit to fill every area; pursue fellowship and discipleship (Eph 5:18; Heb 10:25).
Deliverance Prayer (NKJV Pattern)
Repent: Father, in the Name of Jesus Christ, I confess and repent for every way I have sought power, guidance, or protection apart from You. I repent for any involvement with sorcery, witchcraft, divination, or enchantments—knowingly or unknowingly. I ask Your cleansing by the blood of Jesus (1 John 1:9). I repent for curiosity that led me into darkness, for consulting spiritual sources other than Your Word, and for any mixture that dishonored Your Holy Name.
Renounce: In Jesus’ Name, I renounce the spirit of sorcery and every work of darkness associated with it. I renounce word curses, spells, incantations, pacts, and soul-ties formed through occult practice. I cancel every spoken agreement and every vow that empowered the enemy (Col 2:14–15). I renounce fascination with signs and sensations, and I choose the truth of Scripture over experiences.
Command: In the authority of the Lord Jesus Christ (Luke 10:19), I command the spirit of sorcery to leave me now. I break your power and influence over my mind, emotions, body, and household. I sever all cords of control and manipulation. Every curse, spell, and assignment is broken by the cross and the Name above every name—Jesus! Go, and do not return. Holy Spirit, expose and remove every hidden work of darkness.
Seal: Lord Jesus, I receive Your freedom. I ask You to fill me afresh with the Holy Spirit (Eph 5:18). Establish me in Your Word; let Your light occupy every room of my heart. I dedicate my eyes, ears, and mouth to You. Place a guard over my lips (Ps 141:3) and teach me to speak life (Prov 18:21). I put on the whole armor of God (Eph 6:10–18) and stand firm in Your victory. I declare that I belong to Jesus Christ; I am bought with a price, and I will serve the Lord. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
